Judges Tips
1. Don’t leave it until the last moment
2. Make sure you enter your entry into the appropriate category
3. Ensure good presentation, e.g. tastefully mounted
4. Fill out the entry form carefully, describing the processes that went into the job, difficulties in production, details of embellishment or specific effects required by the customer.
5. Examine the job with a magnifying glass, the Judges will!
6. The Judges will be looking for:
- Quality of image preparation, bleeds and plate misfit
- Colour registration and page line-ups
- Colour variation throughout the product
- Crisp, sharp printing with minimum dot gain
- Hickies, spots, picking or mottling
- Setoff, scuffing or marking during processing
- Evidence of roller marks, ghosting or moiré
- Filling in of reverses, scumming or catchup
- Accuracy of folding, binding, trimming or assembly
- Cleanness and accuracy of knife cutting
The judges also assess the degree of difficulty and the skill required in producing the job. This is the real evidence of good printing management, not just good luck!
